For over 30 years, Mosaic has been a lifeline for resettled refugee families in Texas through crucial wrap-around services. However, an unexpected and indefinite federal funding freeze has cut off essential resources. As of today, our Refugee and Citizenship programs have not received federal reimbursement since December, jeopardizing our ability to serve those in desperate need.
This sudden loss of funding has forced us to make devastating cuts, including the furlough of dedicated staff members, leaving many families feeling scared and uncertain about their future.
With a drastically reduced team, refugee families who have already endured unimaginable hardships are being turned away from case management, legal services, and citizenship assistance—creating barriers that make it harder for them to begin rebuilding their lives and assimilating to their new home.
You can take action today by calling your members of congress. Find your representative here and urge them to take immediate action to restore funding for life-saving programs.

“My name is [insert name] from [City/Zip Code]. As a proud [Texan/member of the community], I urge you and your office to stand with refugees and advocate to release federal funding that supports recently arrived refugees in our community. Funding for refugee programs has been released in every state except for Texas, cutting off many families from life-saving social services. The funding freeze is also having a harmful and costly impact on Texas – as recently-arrived refugees no longer have access to the services they need to obtain self-sufficiency and thrive in their new homes.
I understand that it’s common for a new administration to conduct a review of ongoing programs. However, abruptly stopping programs and services during a review is causing extreme harm to recently arrived refugees who have suddenly lost access to medical care, housing assistance, and more.
Refugee programs make America stronger, safer, and more prosperous. I am urging you to support programs for newly arrived refugees and call on the administration to restore funding for vital humanitarian aid programs in our communities.
I stand with refugees and ask you to uphold Texas’ legacy of welcome!”
