She is also the host of Going Off Grid and Rituals With Laura Ling. \nPrior to joining Discovery Digital Networks\, Ling hosted two documentary series on the E! Network that investigated topics such as teen suicide and underground youth subcultures in America. Previously\, as Vice President of Current TV’s journalism department\, Ling created the critically acclaimed investigative documentary series\, Vanguard\, which received numerous awards\, including the Alfred I. DuPont Award. As a correspondent for SoCal Connected\, a news magazine series\, Ling’s work was recognized with both an Emmy and a national Edward R. Murrow award. \nIn March 2009\, Ling captured the world’s attention from a different standpoint\, when she was arrested and held captive in North Korea for 140 days\, after attempting to report on the trafficking of North Korean women. Granted a special pardon\, she returned to the U.S. and documented her experience in her 2010 memoir\, Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and the Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home\, penned with her sister\, Lisa. \nLing captivates audiences with a raw and candid look inside the life of an international journalist\, including the importance of exposing critical global issues\, the challenges faced in various parts of the world\, and what she learned in one of the world’s most recluse countries. \nHonorary Chair: Caren Lock\n \nCaren K. Lock is the Regional Vice President and Associate General Counsel of TIAA. TIAA is a Fortune 100 financial services organization that is the leading provider of financial services in the academic\, research\, medical\, cultural and governmental fields. In her role at TIAA\, Caren is the primary interface for the company and its’ subsidiaries on all legislative\, executive\, administrative\, and regulatory matters for her 20 states region. Issues affecting the company range from privacy\, fiduciary rule\, capital standards\, to retirement security. She was the former Corporate Co-Chair of the Women’s Employee Resource Group and is currently a member of the Denver Leadership Council and Dallas Leadership Council. \nPrior to joining TIAA\, Caren was General Counsel with a consumer financial company. Before entering the corporate world\, Caren spent over a decade litigating complex business matters including copyright and trademark infringement\, employment discrimination\, shareholder and partnership disputes\, aviation\, and toxic tort. \nCaren is the Board Chair and a member of the Executive Committee at the Texas Women’s Foundation. Caren is also an Executive Board member of the Texas State Bar College. Her community engagement includes past service on multiple nonprofit and bar association boards. Caren is a member of The Dallas Assembly and a graduate of The Leadership Dallas Program. In addition\, Caren co-founded The Orchid Giving Circle in 2015 which provides community grants to support social change and services to the DFW Asian Community. \nCaren’s community involvement and expertise led to her recent advisory board appointment to Kanary’s Inc.\, a technology company that aims to foster collaboration between employers and employees in the workplace. Kanary’s\, Inc. uses a social enterprise platform to gather data and analytics to help create a workplace environment where everyone belongs. \nMistress of Ceremonies: Jenny Anchondo\n \nJenny Anchondo is an Emmy-Award-winning news anchor\, host\, and reporter. She has worked for CBS\, NBC\, and Fox at TV stations all over the country. Most recently\,  she was the co-host of the nationally syndicated show\, Morning Dose. \nPreviously\, Jenny worked as an anchor and reporter for top-rated Fox 4 news\, serving as the single host of the Saturday and Sunday morning broadcasts. \nAlong with her husband Heath\, Jenny co-hosts the Second Shot podcast\, which is an inspirational and motivational show that takes a “second shot” at the news stories of the day. \nJenny also works as a media coach and mentor to individuals and businesses looking to book interviews and effectively get their message across on camera. \nShe is a passionate volunteer and community servant. In addition to several philanthropic projects Jenny lends her time to\, she has served on the boards for the Housing Crisis Center and Leukemia Texas. As a first generation college student\, she is passionate about literacy and education.
